Ramen, Chang-style

One last day in New York and over 20 different places on my list that I wanted to try for lunch. While so many seemed appealing, it was David Chang’s enthusiasm for ramen in Mind of a Chef that guided my choice. After trying (and loving) one of his choices in Tokyo, I wanted to … Continue reading →

On this trip to NYC,  I had no real intentions of fine dining and tasting menus. There was a whole layer of hip and casual eats to explore and I wanted it. So I started to find great, fun casual eating spots. I was excited at the prospects, but on such an exploration, you’re bound … Continue reading →

My first day (of 3) on my first trip to Montreal

Posted on May 22, 2013 by Call me a food lover... • Leave a comment

It was an impromptu decision, but I’m in Montreal. I know I’ll have a great time exploring the city for the first time, but I can’t shirk the feeling that I’m not in New York. I know it’s sounds ridiculous, but even moments before I purchased my ticket to Montreal, I thought I’d be spending … Continue reading →

Kaiseki at Kikunoi in Kyoto with my Mom

When I made my food itinerary for Japan, it wasn’t with Michelin stars in mind. I’ve eaten a lot of great food in Japan, but on this trip, I wanted to experience the “best” sushi, tempura, yakitori and kaiseki to see if what people considered the best, tasted that much better than very good or … Continue reading →

I detoured to Tokyo on my way to visit my family in the Kansai area of Japan specifically to eat and I believe I was successful in accomplishing as much as I could in 3 days. I only conquered a quarter of my list, but have a lot to great eating look forward to the … Continue reading →

Evening in the Mind of a Chef

After months of anticipation and planning I am finally in Tokyo! I admit that although I prepared for my trip with the knowledge that Japan is a difficult place to navigate with my elementary Japanese skills, I was still very nervous as I got on to the plane in Vancouver. I know that I had … Continue reading →

Fried Chicken at Momofuku Noodle Bar

Posted on May 31, 2011 by Call me a food lover... • 3 Comments

I’ve wanted to try one of David Chang’s Momofuku restaurants on my last few trips to NYC, but it’s never worked out before.  Reading through other blog posts and reviews, it seemed that reservations were impossible to get and that for those that didn’t take reservations, (Noodle Bar) the wait time was always an hour … Continue reading →

INSTASTUFF

A very indulgent ME day with a DELUXE chirashi for lunch and 2 massages! 😊
@bomberbrewing Marzen is the best cure for the post-vacation blues.

I woke up early to watch the sun rising from behind the blossom-lined canal. This quiet morning in an area normally teeming with people was the most beautiful way to end my whirlwind trip through Japan. I can’t believe that I arrived to buds and am leaving with falling petals. Sakura season happened quickly this year. I’m grateful to have witnessed the full cycle. 🌸
Exactly how I wanted to start my last night in Japan. Drinks, at one of the World’s Top 50, custom-made to my moment of desire followed by plates and plates of fresh seafood.
Lunch with Dad eating okonomiyaki at my favorite place. One of my Osaka musts! Try as I might at home, I just can’t get it taste this good.
