After I made reference to Bistro Pastis in my French Onion soup post a few weeks back, I haven’t been able to get it out of my mind. So on a rainy Friday night, with no specific plans, we decided to brave the weather for a dinner out.
Bistro Pastis is one of my favourite relaxed, unpretentious dinner spots in Vancouver. Although it feels “fancy”, they don’t think twice if you go in and order a couple of appetizers. Our usual is a burnt martini(Ben), a Kir Royale(me), French Onion soups to start and then we share a beef tartare. But because we had French Onion soup just a while back, I was a bit more indulgent.
Frisee salad with crispy double smoked bacon and a perfectly soft poached egg.Ben couldnt resist and when I tasted it, I was almost regretted not ordering it myself. The rich beef stock is almost magical. My favourite beef tartare in the city with thin, crisp croutons and a lovely green salad. The tartare is served with wonderfully hot fries and garlic mayo.
Call me a food lover... not a foodie. Maybe you have a definition of foodie that's different than mine, but I think of myself as a person who loves to eat, cook, find amazing eating spots, browse interesting grocery stores and drive a hundred miles out of the way to visit a farmers market. I like talking about food and taking food photos...
Up until now, I've never been motivated to put my thoughts to words. But then I heard the 2 words that inspired me to start writing. French Laundry.
